About

MCC is a day secondary school located in the Mucheke high density suburb of
Masvingo city. It derives most of its learners from the local high-density
residential areas such as Mucheke, Rujeko, Runyararo West, Majange and
Victoria Range. In addition, some learners come from areas outside the city, such
as, Gokomere, Mutimurefu, Mashava and Mushandike. Some of these places are
in the range of 10- 20 kms, outside the city of Masvingo.

MCC was established as a secondary school in 1981 by the Churches of Christ
(Mashoko mission) which has now rebranded to Hippo Valley Christian Mission
(HVCM), that is, the current responsible authority for the school. Originally, this
institution was opened as a Bible college. The focus for the Bible College was to
train preachers for Churches of Christ/Christian Churches. These preachers were
meant to serve in Zimbabwe and in the region, that is, Central Africa, as a whole.
For this reason, the college was named Central Africa Christian College. At

independence, in 1980, the Bible College was moved to Hatfield in Harare
where it is still operating up to this day. The remaining institution in Masvingo
was then rebranded to enroll secondary school children, starting in 1981. The
Founder missionaries for CACC included Dick Smith and Ben Pennington who
also became the principals of the Bible College at some point. For the secondary
school, the founder missionary is John Mark Pemberton, the first principal of the
secondary school education offering MCC was Mr. Hamadziripi Mamutse who
was deputized by Mr. Kingstone Philemon Gunguvo Sithole. KPG Sithole was
later sent to Mashoko, where he became one of the most refined and successful
heads that the circuit has ever produced.

Masvingo Christian College (The secondary school) was designed to work hand
in glove with the Churches of Christ, in the area of secondary school education,
evangelism, and social concern. At its inception, the school was built to
accommodate young people whose education had been disturbed by the
protracted war of liberation and returning refugees who were coming back home
from neighboring countries following the end of the war and the birth of an
independent Zimbabwe in 1980.” Clearly, from its inception, the school was
built to accommodate disadvantaged members of society. At some point and for
various reasons, the evangelism and social concern objectives of the school
seemed to have been overshadowed by the public education goals. During the
active years of evangelism and social concern, a full-time pastor has always
been assigned to the school. Such a pastor would also be working with the local
congregation at Mucheke Church of Christ and the local community. The first
Pastor was Mr. Tumanai Alvin Mapako (Dube) who served during the period
from 1988 to 1998. When the Bible College moved to Hatfield in Harare, the
secondary (MCC) inherited two classroom blocks, one of which has now been
converted to a computer laboratory, two semi-detached houses a Church
building and an ablution block. Expansion later saw the construction of 17
additional classroom blocks, a fashion and fabrics block, two science blocks a
library and an administration block.

MCC started off as a Cambridge examination center and later on transformed to
the current status where it is now a ZIMSEC and HEXCO examination center. It
started as an O ‘ level, school, focusing on Humanities, Commercials and

Practical subjects. A’ level was introduced in 1997, but also with a focus on Arts
and Commercial subjects only. A’ level Sciences began to be offered in 2016,
following the coming on board, of the current Head, Dr. Edson Muresherwa.

A multi-story building with a cross on top, suggesting it might be a school or religious institution. The structure features colorful accents with a pastel color scheme, including pink and yellow. A wall in the foreground has a poster with images of children, potentially students. Trees and greenery frame the scene, and the sky appears overcast.
